5 Proposal Planning Tips No One Tells You
There’s something wonderfully timeless about a proposal.
No matter how many weddings we plan, or how many love stories we’re lucky enough to witness, that moment when one person chooses to ask the question that changes everything never loses its magic.
And yet… proposals can also feel surprisingly overwhelming to plan.
Because while you want it to be a beautiful surprise, you also want it to feel personal, thoughtful, effortless (even if it takes a lot of behind-the-scenes effort), and most importantly… true to her.
Over the years, we’ve supported couples in planning proposals across London, Europe and beyond from private rooftops and hidden gardens, to candlelit terraces and historic city streets. And while every proposal is unique, there are a few key considerations that make the experience feel calm, meaningful and unforgettable.
Here are five proposal tips every man needs but no one actually tells you.
1. How do you want her to arrive?
Walking her there yourself is intimate and personal. Arriving first and having her brought to you creates maximum surprise.
Both are beautiful, it's about the energy you want and whether she'll sense something's up.
2. Private or public?
That iconic location packed with tourists? She'll feel self-conscious and rushed.
Pick somewhere with privacy so she can react however she needs to... tears, shock, laughter... without performing for strangers.
3. Rehearse!
Which pocket is the ring in? How does the box open? Where are you positioned? Are you blocking anyone's view?
One quick practice run makes you feel prepared instead of panicked.
4. Don't forget the "after"
Dinner reservation. Family gathering. Champagne. More photos. Something meaningful right after.
The proposal shouldn't end with "yes" and then awkward silence about what happens next.
5. Bring in help early
Bring in a planner or photographer before you finalise your plan. We help with location, timing, logistics, keeping the surprise intact, and details you'd never think about.
A final thought…
The most beautiful proposals are never the most complicated; they're the ones that feel deeply personal.
The setting can be extraordinary, the details can be perfectly styled, the photos can be stunning… but the true magic always comes down to one thing: the feeling.
If you’re planning to propose and would like discreet support whether it’s finding the perfect location, creating a seamless timeline, working with a photographer, or simply ensuring the entire moment feels effortless we would be delighted to help.
